The International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (WPI-I2CNER) at Kyushu University, in collaboration with the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM)-Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), hosted the 2025 WPI Symposium in Madrid “Energy Materials for a Sustainable Future,” from November 11 to 13, 2025.

The symposium was held at the Institute of Ceramics and Glass, CSIC, and there were a total of 180 participants from institutions including Kyushu University, the Spanish National Research Council, Institute of Science Tokyo, Kumamoto University, Forschungszentrum Jülich, the Paul Scherrer Institute, and Imperial College London. The first day featured presentations by leading researchers from each institution. On the second and third days, lectures by researchers from Japan and Spain covered a wide range of energy-related research topics. The program also included poster sessions and lab tours, offering participants valuable networking opportunities.

Over the course of this three-day event, each day was marked by active discussions and the exchange of ideas. Young researchers were offered an excellent platform to develop ideas with fellow researchers, strengthen international collaborations, and advance WPI’s new missions of “World-Leading Scientific Excellence and Recognition” and “Values for the Future.”
