The International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I²CNER), Kyushu University, hosted the 2021 I²CNER Annual Symposium "A Virtuous Cycle: Embedding the Energy Transition in post-COVID-19 Recovery" on January 26, 2021 (Japan) .

 

The global COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our societies in multiple ways which with regard to the energy systems are manifested in CO₂ emission reductions and decreased industrial activity and economic output. Within this framework, in this year’s I²CNER annual symposium, we explored with 128 participants the variety of future energy technologies and policy outlooks in Japan and across the globe, and we plan to discuss how investment can be prioritized in energy engineering so we can accelerate the transition to carbon neutrality while at the same time contributing to economic recovery.
