Research Outline

Experimental hydrogen embrittlement

Quantitative evaluation of the effect of hydrogen on the mechanical properties of metallic materials.

Computational hydrogen embrittlement

Qualitative elucidation of the underlying mechanism of experimental phenomenon.

Research Methods and Facilities

Assessment of mechanical properties of materials

Measure the mechanical properties of materials in hydrogen-containing environment utilizing the tensile test, low-cycle fatigue life test, fatigue crack growth test, fracture toughness test, and fretting test.

Theoretical chemical calculation

Use density functional calculations and first-principles molecular dynamics to investigate the chemical process of hydrogen entering metals, the interaction of hydrogen and gas impurities, and the interface of complex oxide, etc.
