Research Methods and Facilities

Measurements of fracture and fatigue properties of structural metals in hydrogen gas employing mechanical test frames coupled to high-pressure gas chambers. The figure below shows the measured fatigue crack growth rate (da/dN) behavior of low-alloy steel in hydrogen gas with varying levels of trace water vapor.
