My name is Shinya Okazaki, and I have been appointed Director of the Mitsui Chemicals Carbon Neutral Research Center (MCI-CNRC), starting in April 2024.

The Mitsui Chemicals Carbon Neutral Research Center (MCI-CNRC) was established on November 1, 2021, based on an organization-responsive collaboration between Kyushu University and Mitsui Chemicals, with the efforts of the first director, Professor Ishihara. The center is promoting various joint research themes with the cooperation of professors and associate professors belonging to I²CNER in order to quickly implement these technologies in society by combining the world’s most advanced knowledge that contributes to carbon neutrality and carbon negativity with Mitsui Chemicals’ expertise in the development and industrialization of low environmental impact technologies. We are promoting various joint research themes with the cooperation of professors and associate professors affiliated with I²CNER.

After about three years since its opening, the number of patents and papers published on the results of each joint research theme has been increasing year by year. In the future, we intend to accelerate our research and development efforts by further deepening the collaboration between Kyushu University and Mitsui Chemicals, with the aim of implementing these results in society.
